Let me introduce myself

Emiliya Ivanova
Legal and Business Consultant

I am with a Master´s degree in Law and specialization in International Law and relationships from Sofia University, Bulgaria. I also have a Master‘s degree in International Business and Management from Academy for Economics, Bulgaria. I have attended many courses and training about starting and growing nonprofit organizations, as well as having finished a specialization in Social Entrepreneurship at Copenhagen Business School.

My education laid a solid foundation but my professional experience has given me in-depth knowledge, core competencies, and specialized skills, which has made me a real professional. I have more than 20 years of professional experience working as a Legal Adviser in the Ministry of Labor in Social affairs (Bulgaria), Chief Legal Officer at Sofia Municipality, Independent Law Practice, and expert in EU and other international funds – both as a grant writer and evaluator of grant applications.

I had an opportunity to be on both sides of the fence - working with many local and international institutions but also with local and international businesses and nonprofit organizations.

I moved to Iceland in 2014 and brought with me all of this knowledge and experience. Here I met many great local and foreign people who have wonderful business or social ideas that deserved to be developed and shown to the world.

I believe I can help you to clarify your idea. I can take you through the „boring“ but very important legal process of starting your own company or nonprofit organization and I can help you to find and apply for funding so your idea or startup begins to grow and passes to the next level.

I am proud to be a Board Member of Innovation and New Icelanders Committees of the biggest women's professional organization - Association of businesswomen in Iceland - (FKA). I hope that my roles there, as well as my professional experience will help to increase diversity and visibility of women in Icelandic business environment.
 
I would like to share with you not only my knowledge but also my personal practical experience as a foreigner who starts her life and career in a new country from zero. This will be very useful for other people of foreign origin who face the same obstacles as I did and try to succeed away from home.
